SAHAG NALBANDIAN
1899 - 1961
Yeghpayr Sahag Nalbandian was one of the faithful members of the first generation of Homenetmen’s Aleppo branch, joining Homenetmen early on. He was born in Aintab in 1899.
He grew up in the great school of national service of Homenetmen and the ARF, where he formed the character of a selfless man and an ideological profile. With his deep faith, devotion, integrity, and conscientiousness toward the Armenian Cause, he became a beloved figure to all. Along with his peers, he was considered one of the founders of the Armenian‑populated suburb of Nor Kyugh.
He was known as a man of few words, always prudent and decisive in judgment, a true Homenetmen member.
In the early 1960s, when representatives of the ARF organization in Syria were arrested on charges of illegal and anti‑state activity, Yeghpayr Sahag was also arrested and imprisoned. In prison, unwilling to yield to torture, a week after his arrest, on July 23, 1961, he ended his life by his own hand, meeting a death befitting the brave.
