LEVON BERBERIAN

1927 - 1986

Yeghpayr Levon Berberian was among the brilliant generation that shaped the glory days of Homenetmen basketball.

He was born in Beirut in 1927. Within Homenetmen, he served as a kaylig and a scout. For many years, he was a member of the Beirut branch’s first division basketball team, where he was widely admired and in high demand, contributing to the organization’s Lebanese championship title. He served as a role model for the younger members and an inspiration to his peers.

Yeghpayr Levon was wholly devoted to public and social work. He served on successive Central Executives of Hamazkayin. As a faithful ARF member, he assumed numerous party responsibilities. He was a member of the ARF Central Committee of Lebanon and, during the harshest moments of the Lebanese war, stood on the frontlines, actively contributing to the Armenian community’s self‑defense efforts.

With his gentle and friendly nature, his spirit of service, and his example of “Mishd Badrasd” (Always Ready), Yeghpayr Levon was a model Homenetmen member. On January 31, 1986, together with Vartkes Der Garabedian and Nerses Khudaverdian, he was martyred in Beirut by the disgraceful crime of the enemies of the Armenian people.
